Photography That Feels Like Home

Hello, I’m Sam—founder, photographer, and quiet storyteller at The Wandering Creative, based here in beautiful Townsville. My journey to photography has been woven from life’s most meaningful threads: capturing love, honoring simplicity, and finding beauty in every moment.

From Wanderer to Storyteller

Photography and I first crossed paths years ago when I was a bit of a wanderer, traveling across Australia and New Zealand with my husband and our daughters, absorbing the sights and stories of each unique landscape. That two-year journey became a defining chapter for me—a time to explore not only new places but also the quiet art of observation. Now, I continue to see life through that lens. Photography is my tool to tell stories, weaving together the journeys of others into images that feel like home.

The Wandering Creative was born of my desire to capture the simple, profound moments that can sometimes go unnoticed. I am drawn to scenes that speak gently, capturing images that will become family heirlooms—something your children, and their children, can hold in their hands to remember where their story began.

My Approach: Professional, Poetic, and True to You

My brand has found its own place in the Australian wedding photography landscape: warm, summer-focused, and brimming with meaning. Every love story I capture is unique, and I approach each one as such. I want you to feel both seen and at ease in front of my lens. My goal is for each photograph to embody the poetry of your love, telling the story of a life you’re building together. It's an honour to document the moments that will become your family’s memories.

I believe in Photography that Feels Like Home. This means my work is less about glamour and more about quiet, honest moments—the ones that matter most. I strive to be present but unobtrusive, to capture your true selves without interruption.

A Few Personal Notes

When I’m not photographing weddings, I’m a full-time student of social work. My days are spent balancing study, family, and business, working around the time I carve out with my husband, our three kids, and our gentle Border Collie, Folk.

My dreams are simple and meaningful. My family and I plan to one day settle on a small piece of land in Tasmania, where my husband brews our morning coffee, and our grown daughters each have their own space to thrive. I romanticize the small things and love to create an environment that feels peaceful, intentional, and grounded.

Why The Wandering Creative Co?

I’m here because of you—the couples, the families, and the individuals with lives that deserve to be seen, remembered, and celebrated. With each image, I’m building a piece of history that’s both beautiful and real. Whether it’s the gentle touch of hands, the knowing look exchanged, or the laughter shared, my aim is to capture the essence of you and your journey together.

If you’re looking for a wedding photographer with a quiet presence and an eye for subtle details, I’d love to connect. Let’s create something timeless—something that feels like home.
